We'd read a book about the Portland Vase and visited an exhibition of Roman glass at the Getty Museum, so we wanted to see the real thing. The Vase was broken into 200+ pieces by a nutter in 1845 but glued back together. It was most recently taken apart and reassembled in 1987.
