We saw an interesting 2006 movie called "Whose Utopia -- My Future is Not a Dream, What Are You Doing Here?" by Cao Fei. It mixed clips of automated machinery in a light bulb factory in the Pearl River delta in China, with tedious handwork by humans at the same factory, and performances by workers like this remarkable dancer.
