The older wing of the Statens Museum for Kunst contains the Golden Age of Danish painting (19c).Christoffer Wilhelm Ekersberg was one of the most important early Golden Age painters and an influential teacher. This painting may be an illustration of a scene from a popular novel in which a woman is saved from drowning.
