Segovia suffered heavy damage during the Revolt of the Comuneros (Guerra de las Comunidades de Castilla, "War of the Communities of Castile") 1520-21. Castille rebelled against the Flemish officials of young Charles V. The old cathedral and many other buildings were destroyed.
