There were four of these muzzle loaders installed in the Mediterranean in the 1880s by the British: two on Malta and two at Gibraltar. They were designed to defend against Italian battleships with the same guns made by the same British company, Armstrong. The gun weighs 100 tons and could only be moved by hydraulic machinery.
