Pieces of glass are temporarily held in place with red wax that is heated by the small spirit lamp to make it adhesive. When the pieces are closely fit, permanent liquid adhesive can be applied and flows into the very narrow channel between pieces by capillary action. The wax patch is then heated and removed.
