Jomon people were stone-age hunters and gatherers. These are obsidian arrow and lance points. The obsidian came from Shirataki district, Engaru town in Hokkaido. Materials found here include asphalt from Aomori prefecture (on Honshu) and jade from between Niigata and Toyama prefectures (further south on the west coast of Honshu). Dugout canoes carried the traders.
