This is the museum and headquarters of the Kanto festival, held in Akita 3–7 August. About 200 arrays of 24-46 lanterns each mounted on bamboo poles 5-12 m high and weighing up to 50 kg are paraded through the streets by night on the palms, foreheads, shoulders, or lower backs of the celebrants.
