On our last, rainy, day in Yokohama we visited the Silk Museum In this display silk cocoons being unwound on a spool (water bottle). It's that easy. I think it's easy, whereas unrolling a ball of yarn or string can be difficult, because the silk worm does not wind the cocoon into a series of 360 degree turns, but moves its spinneret in an S-pattern, back and forth.
