We stopped at level 2. Level 3 is 19 step up and under that stone torii. That level has a large belfry that became a drum dower when Shinto shrines were stripped of their Buddhist fittings in 1873 under the prohibition of hybrid worship. Temples lost a lot of support and had to sell off some of their treasures, e.g. to Charles Lang Freer and benefactors of the Boston Museum of Fine Art.
