Notes for Jeffrey Manning
DEATH: MAN001. "Jeffrey and his wife Hepsibah were the first of this name to settle in the township of Piscataway. His parentage is not certainly known, he may be a descendent of some of the families who settled in New England. John Manning is the first mentioned of that name who came to America in Aug. 1635 in the English ship "Globe" at 20 yrs. of age. In 1676 Jeffrey had surveyed for him 180 acres, again in 1677 195 acres, and in 1685 and 1686 two plantations of 100 acres each. He died in 1693, leaving a wife and four sons and one daughter. John, Joseph, Benjamin, James, & Elizabeth."
MAN002 p. 805. "Jeffrey Manning was in Piscataway township, New Jersey, as early as 1676, in which year he purchased land. He was one of three commissioners to lay out land grants, 1682, and was marshal of the first County Court of Middlesex, held at Piscataway, 1683. He d. in 1693.
