Lucy Cain was from Winchester, Virginia, 60+ miles NW of Springfield.
DUR006: "Copy by CKD from his mother's notes loaned by M.D. Van Law. Mch 27, 1927. Jesse Durbin was born near Westminster then in Frederick, now Carol [Carroll] Co. Maryland Oct 25th 1827. Was converted in Cumberland, Md in 1842. He removed to Sandusky Ohio in May 1845. In Aug 1849 he was appointed with Rev. --- to Republic circuit North Ohio Conf. Aug 7th 1850. At Medina, he was admitted on trial and appointed with Rev. David Gray to Bucyrus Circuit. July 31st 1851, Bellefontain[e], he was appointed to Norwalk Ohio. Was married in Springfield Va. March 16th 1852. At Delaware O. Aug '52, he was ordained Deacon by Bishop Simpson and appointed by his request junior preacher [?] on Wadsworth Circuit. In February was sent to Wooster by the PE, Rev. T. Barkwill to fill Rev. S.L. Youstee's place. Conference Aug. 24, 1853 Mt Vernon returned him to Wooster. At Triffen Aug. '54, Bishop simpson ordained him as elder. By reason of a bronchial difficulty the Conference granted him a superannuated [?] relation. Resided in Wooster till Aug 1863, when he removed to Canton Ohio. Remained there till 1874. In the summer visited Colorado and in September came with Willie and bought Mr. Cheeseman's drug [?] store--Blake St. Denver. May 1875, wife and 3 sons (Jessie [sic], Ned and Charlie) came and went to housekeeping on Green St. and 14th Avenue (now 2nd and Gaylord) in McCullough's Add. From his home there he went to Heaven September 1st 1884." Summary: Moved to Ohio at the age of 18 and began church work. Lived 10 yrs in Wooster, 12 yrs in Canton, moved to Denver at age of 48, and died there at age of 57. No account given for Mary and Levi, who weren't married by 1877, and Mary's eventual husband was a Van Law, presumbably a Denver resident.
